Australia Day 2008

Today I'm sad.

Exactly this time last year, Lulu and I was in Rome, having such a miserable time, visiting the Vatican and trying to get into St Peter's Basilica on a miserably cold, wet & rainy day and then finding our way back to the hotel and getting yummy gelato to make brighten up our day a little.... I miss it, I miss it SO much!

I wish I was in miserable Rome celebrating Australia Day all over again.

How can 12 months have passed already?! Where has the time flown? So much has happened in the past 12 months, yet so little seems to have been remembered...

This time last year I was younger. This time last year I was so happy and so excited. This time last year I had a boyfriend who adored me. This time last year I felt satisfied. So what has happened since that time that has made me see the world so differently? What happened in the last 12 months that has turned my life inside out and upside down? What is it that made me feel all sorts of weird strange love awful despair wonderful sad elated detached joy? I don't know and I really wish I did.

Onion - Part 2

Well... what happened to Onion?

Lulu took him to the vet and it turns out, Onion is not microchipped but the vet wouldn't let us take him back, said that legally they had to keep him there for 2 weeks to give the owners a chance to find him. Fair enough, we understand this, so we offered to look after him for 2 weeks.... and possibly longer if nobody came to claim him, but vet said no :(

I miss him.... my little Onion....

We'll see what happens after 2 weeks and hopefully we get to keep him :)

You may call me 'Hero'

My weekend was shaping up to be rather quite boring.... when I'm stuck at home, I seem to have an endless supply of dishes to do, and an endless amount of housework.... I don't understand how I became so 'housewifey' when I'm no where near being anyone's housewife and am so 'un-housewifey' in every other way :(

Anyways, unlike most other boring weekends, today it threw in a teensy bit of excitement in the shape of a little beige and white fluff-ball, who I have named 'Onion' :)

This is him, see how cute he is!

I'm a hero, a saviour :) I don't know how much longer we'll be having him with us, so I'm making the most of his company, he's so adorable, he's following me around like a... well, like a little lost puppy really :)
Almost like he knows I'm the one that saved him - I'm so happy.

So, how did I happen upon Onion? Well, I went to the supermarket to get some potatoes and just as I was waiting at the traffic lights to cross the road, out of nowhere struts this little piece of fluff ball, completely unaware and oblivious to oncoming traffic. It horrified me, I was so afraid that I was about to watch this little dog get run over by a car. Lucky for him, the cars slowed down temporarily for him, I didn't know what to do, should I run out in front of traffic to try and catch him? Would he be vicious and bite me?

What else could I do? I got down low and called to him to come to me, I didn't know whether that would work since I didn't have any food on me to tempt him (other than raw potatoes... hardly scrumptious food to a dog I think) but fortunately for me, he was friendly and was really responsive, he seemed to like my attention so he ran towards me and I just picked him up and carried him home.

He was a bit scruffy and a bit smelly, his hair was a little matted and he wasn't wearing a collar let alone any ID tags... hopefully he is microchipped so we can find his owners. He's such a little beauty. Hasn't made a sound yet. Lulu will take him to the vet tomorrow to check whether he is microchipped. I'm not sure what will happen to him if he is unidentified.... should we keep him?

We have been discussing getting another dog so Taxi can have some companionship... but we were thinking along the lines of a sister rather than a brother.... but Onion is so cute and has such a lovely temperament. He seemed to have found us :)

Look how happy he is

I remember when we lost Taxi... it was a heartbreaking time for us, not knowing what happened to her, not knowing whether she was hurt or hungry, not knowing anything, it was hard. So if little Onion has an owner, and that owner is looking for him then I sure as hell want to reunite Onion with his owner. And while I've got him, I want to make sure that he is well looked after, so we washed him (cos he stank!), we fed him (cos he's real skinny) and we played with him (just cos he is so darn cute). He looks like he's been on the streets for awhile.... we certainly hope he was once loved....

Anyways, he's made my day, lovely little Onion
